Join us for a lively free debate with leading experts in the music world.
Borletti Buitoni Trust's nurturing and support of young artists over the last decade has highlighted the fact that there is growing pressure to participate in more than just making music if they want to succeed in building a sustained and successful career.
Are recording and commissioning necessities or luxuries? And how important is social networking, marketing, promotion and building a public profile? Or are they just distractions? How does a brilliant young musician find the freedom and space for artistic inspiration and development? Who helps them? Is it idealistic to think talent and hard work are all it takes in the 21st century?
Mitsuko Uchida will light the touch paper to spark the discussion among panellists including percussionist Colin Currie, Wigmore Hall Artistic and Executive Director John Gilhooly, Managing Director of Decca Classics Paul Moseley, arts consultant and former Director of the Concertgebouw Amsterdam Martijn Sanders, broadcaster and journalist Tom Service and one of Europe's leading artist managers Sonia Simmenauer.
There will also be opportunity for questions and comment from the audience.
