Borletti-Buitoni Trust Celebrated with Mitsuko Uchida

Led by the charismatic pianist and Borletti-Buitoni Trust trustee Mitsuko Uchida, nine young artists combine to perform three varied chamber works.

Completed in the final year of his short life, the first of Schubert's two piano trios demonstrates the remarkable spirit of a composer living in the shadow of poor health. The trio is an example of Schubert's chamber music at its very best, with a sparkling opening followed by a lushly melodic slow movement and dance-like later movements.

Woodwind instruments dominate the first half of this concert with outstanding clarinettist Martin Fröst leading a performance of Mozart's lyrical Clarinet Quintet and Alexei Ogrintchouk playing Britten's rarely performed Temporal Variations for oboe and piano.

Queen Elizabeth Hall at 6.15pm - pre-concert talk. How is talent recognised and how is it best nurtured? Find out from the three dynamic leading forces behind the Borletti-Buitoni Trust onstage in a live interview. BBT's patron Ilaria Borletti Buitoni speaking for the first time in public about why she established the Trust, Mitsuko Uchida DBE founding trustee and artistic committee member and chief executive Susan Rivers.
